August 28, 2018: Wilsons Pet Foods has entered the growing cold-pressed dog food sector and will be launching three new products at PATS Telford.
The Scottish-based company changed hands last October and the new owners have been swift to move manufacturing to a purpose-built unit in Perthshire and establish an additional line for cold pressed.
Managing director Craig Wallace is upbeat about the future.
“British dog owners are beginning to recognise the health benefits of this production method. Interest is certainly gaining traction,” he said.
“We’ve aimed at the premium end of the market, offering three specially-formulated varieties with British ingredients. And there’s no meat meal, with single-source or single-species proteins allowing us full traceability.”
Wilsons cold pressed range provides a complete, balanced meal for dogs aged from two months and comprises either 39% chicken, 37% fish or 26% lamb as well as sweet potato, vegetables, minerals and botanicals.
The company has chosen to eschew the usual bag designs and, instead, its packaging features romanticised rural scenes and titles. Sealable packaging comes in 10kg and 2.5kg options.
The three lines are:
* Sunrise Song – Chicken and Vegetable
* Mountain Steam – Scottish Salmon and Sweet Potato
* Secret Pasture – British Lamb and Rice.
