Staying Safe and Happy on Autumn Dog Walks
As the weather gets colder, and the days get shorter, you'll be noticing the changes already around us as we move into Autumn.
We’ve got some top tips for keeping you and your dog safe this season, and the perfect after-walk meals.
Switch up your routine

As we start to see daylight rapidly reducing this month, you may find it beneficial to start to adjust your usual routine to walk in the day light. This is especially helpful when the clocks change later this month
Going out in the dark? Invest in good hi-vis and light-up collars for you and your dog. Keep both yourself and your dog safe by making yourself as visible as possible to others and especially cars.
Beach walks

Now we’re past 1st October, we’ll also start to see the lifting of seasonal dog bans across the UK beaches, so it’s the perfect time to book in a weekend adventure!

Beware of Hazards

A classic Autumn walk isn’t complete without spotting conkers and acorns scattered across the floor, but be aware that these both contain toxic chemicals that could affect your dog, and could also become a chocking danger.
Don’t miss out on stopping and checking these out, but ensure you keep an eye on your dog while you’re foraging, and perhaps refrain from tossing them back (incase your dog thinks you’re striking up a game of fetch!).
Post-walk care

You’re probably already noticing that you’re having to wash down your pup much more after a wet walk (we certainly are!) but it’s also important to continue this through Autumn.
Not only is it essential to remove dirt and dampness to reduce any risk of skin irritation, but it helps keep your dog clean and comfortable. Also use this time to look for ticks that may have jumped onto your dog’s body - ticks continue to be prevalent during the Autumn months in woods, water and meadows.
Cosy dinners

The perfect way to round off your dog’s walks, is with a bowl of their favourite meals.
